Birmingham Airport

Birmingham International Airport handles over 8 million passengers each year and is one of the UK’s largest airports. A £260 million development programme has been underway, providing additional check-in desks, a new multi-storey car park, and improved access roads.

The airport became the first in the UK to offer wireless internet access. Modern and efficient, it ranks highly in international airport ratings. Facilities include a wide range of shops and restaurants, with convenient long- and short-stay parking. Car park shuttle buses run every few minutes and are particularly efficient.

Check-in and departure facilities are straightforward, and the airport is spacious and well presented. Transport links to Birmingham and beyond are excellent, with plentiful taxis and buses. Its close proximity to the National Exhibition Centre makes it popular with the business community as well as tourists.

A more recent addition is the SkyRail system, linking the terminals directly with Birmingham International Station.

By the end of March 2003, Birmingham International Airport had handled 8.27 million passengers, an impressive achievement given the global reduction in air travel at the time. The airport serves major European destinations as well as routes to the Middle East and North America, with low-cost airlines forming a significant part of its operations.
