Bacchus Bar

The Bacchus Bar, located in Burlington Arcade on New Street in the basement of the Burlington Hotel, is one of Birmingham’s most distinctive and exclusive bars.

Named after Bacchus, the Greek god of wine, the décor attempts to reflect this theme, at least in part. Some elements sit slightly out of step with the classical inspiration, but the overall atmosphere appeals to those who enjoy unusual surroundings and a more relaxed drinking environment. It is certainly not the cheapest bar in the city, though the cost reflects both the elaborate décor and its prime location.

The bar also serves food, which is similarly priced. Reviews suggest that opinions on service and cuisine can be mixed, and expectations should be managed accordingly.

When Bacchus first opened it was widely talked about and quickly became a popular venue for entertaining visitors to the city or unwinding with colleagues after work.

Large wall murals, Roman-style pillars and a generally subdued interior give the bar a slightly severe character. For those who appreciate this style, Bacchus Bar remains an appealing and memorable place to visit.
