Abandoned Vehicles

Abandoned and burned-out vehicles are a blight on the landscape. It is estimated that around 300,000 vehicles are abandoned in England every year, with Birmingham and the West Midlands experiencing more than their fair share of the problem.

Local authorities are responsible for the disposal of abandoned vehicles. If you believe a vehicle has been abandoned on a public highway, it should be reported. However, it is important to ensure that the vehicle is on public land and not on private property. If a vehicle is taxed, it may not be considered abandoned.

Dumping a vehicle or setting it alight is a criminal offence and can result in heavy fines or imprisonment. The burned-out wreck shown here was dumped and set alight in Woodgate Valley Country Park. Those responsible showed no regard for the environmental damage caused by their actions.
