Combe Martin is an ideal stop off point along the coast. It is a small resort with a sheltered cove on the outskirts of the Exmoor National Park. The Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park has an animated life size T-Rex, a dinosaur museum and a host of animals and birds.
Combe Martin is a good place to relax and provides walkers with plenty of scope for coastal and countryside rambles. Combe Martin’s claim to fame is that is reputed to have the longest main street of any village in England. It covers a distance of over two miles as it winds up the valley or combe from which it gets its name.
The Pack of Cards in Combe Martin is one of its oldest buildings and used to be the Kings Arms until 1933. Built around 1700 by George Ley, it is unusual in that it had fifty two windows, covering four floors and with thirteen doors for the four suits of a pack of cards – George Ley purchased the land and built the property from his winnings from gambling.
