Streetly used to be an agricultural area. This is still reflected in the open spaces that exist today, although it has grown into an established residential suburb of Walsall. Streetly borders Sutton Coldfield and has good access to the main road network.
Streetly gets its name from Ryknield Street, the site of an old Roman road. A settlement has existed here since Saxon times. During medieval times, Streetly was owned by the Earl of Warwick, who had a manor house in Sutton Coldfield. After the war, Streetly developed rapidly, and many of the buildings—particularly the residential areas—date from the 1950s and 1960s.
