Icon Gallery

The Ikon Gallery was originally founded by Angus Skene together with four artists from the Birmingham School of Art. The gallery is located close to Broad Street in a Grade II listed building on Oozells Square. This building was formerly the Oozells Street Board School, designed in 1877 by the architect John Henry Chamberlain.

The Ikon Gallery is open daily except Mondays, unless the Monday is a bank holiday. The gallery was established with the aim of engaging the public in contemporary art, with education forming a central part of its mission. Ikon provides informative displays and actively promotes both established and emerging artists.

Temporary exhibitions are presented across two floors of the building, with a diverse range of work on display. The gallery showcases many forms of contemporary art, including photography, painting, sculpture, film and media-based works.

There is also a Spanish restaurant located within the Ikon Gallery. The gallery operates as a registered charity and is partly funded by Birmingham City Council and Arts Council England, with additional financial support provided through corporate funding.
