Birmingham has its own Chinese Quarter, a colourful and vibrant community that
exists in the heart of the city not far from New Street Station. Suprisingly the Chinese community account for only 0.3% of the population but they have a well established profile.
Birmingham’s first Chinese restaurant opened in 1956 at Holloway Head and was called the Tong Kung. There are many Chinese restaurants and supermarkets in Birmingham and some fine examples of Chinese architecture. Striving hard to retain their cultural identity but at the same time blend in with day to day life in the city of Birmingham
the Chinese community has done its best to enhance the cultural diversity of the city. The Chinese New Year celebrations are well worth a visit.
