Centenary Square is one of Birmingham’s newest public squares. It is a popular meeting place and pedestrian route linking Broad Street, the canal area and the city centre. Many live concerts and public events take place here, including the popular New Year celebrations. The paving stones and railings were designed by Tess Jaray.
A pleasant walk can be taken from Broad Street and the waterside canal area near the NIA, passing indoors through the International Convention Centre with its modern interior and emerging into Centenary Square. From here, pedestrians can continue towards the Library, through the arcade into Chamberlain Square, Victoria Square and onwards into the city centre.
The square features several notable examples of public art and surrounding buildings, including the Spirit of Enterprise sculpture, the Torch, Baskerville House and the Hall of Memory. Centenary Square was completed in 1991.
