Barr Beacon forms part of the Forest of Mercia and was formerly known as Beacon Regional Park. Its name derives from the beacon fires that were once lit here. The site lies on the B1452 near Walsall and Aldridge and offers wide panoramic views across the surrounding landscape.
Standing at 227 metres above sea level, Barr Beacon is a well-known local landmark and is popular with dog walkers, kite flyers and model aircraft enthusiasts. There are no on-site facilities, but parking is available and a small pagoda stands near the exit.
The area is particularly popular during the summer months. However, it has long had a reputation for anti-social behaviour after dark and is generally best avoided from dusk onwards.
