We have had many enquiries about Star City and you
can find information here.
If you click on the camera image at the top right of the page you can
see some recently taken photographs of Birmingham city centre and other
locations around the West Midlands. The millenium project is compiling
a record of lives of the people of Birmingham from 1945 onwards. Take a
look at the Millenium Web Site or for a quick
tour of the city our Around Brum tour is a good starting
point
Having just arrived in Birmingham where would you
start?. Well you might like to start with Brindleyplace just off Broad
Street. This area gets really lively at night times but lets assume
that you have a whole day ahead of you. Take a wander around
Brindleyplace with its modern buildings and cafe and restaurant bars. A
walk along the canal side will take you to the National Indoor Arena
where the TV series ' Gladiators' was filmed. The National Sea Life
Centre is here and you may have noticed the Icon Gallery just off
Brindleyplace Square.
Walk back along the canal sidewalk and pass under
the tunnel along by the canal and you will enter Gas Street Basin. The
canals are enjoying a renaissance and the Gas Basin usually has a host
of canal boats berthed up along its banks.
If you walk back the way you came and cross over
the footbridge by the Indoor Convention Centre you can pass through the
inside of this spacious and attractive modern building which houses the
Symphony Hall and plays host to important visitors to Birmingham. Many
functions are held here and the modern architecture is pleasing to the
eye.
You will come out into Centenary Square. This is
where the New Year Celebrations are held and several annual events run
by the local council. The Rep is situated in Centenary Square along
with the Hall of Memory and Baskerville House. If you continue on your
journey you can either visit the Mailbox or pass through the central
library into Victoria Square where you will see the magnificent Council
House and Town Hall.
From here there are a number of places you might
like to visit. The Museum and Art Gallery is definately worth
considering and from Victoria Square you can walk down New Street and
into the city centre and its shopping malls, the Bullring and Millenium
Point. The Chinese Quarter is also only a ten minute walk from Victoria
Square.
If you are looking for a night out on the town the
main clubbing areas and the busiest pubs are near the Chinese Quarter
and Broad Street. You could spend a whole evening just around Broad
Street which has a wide variety of pubs and clubs for all tastes along
with plenty of restaurants and cafe bars. If you want to visit Star
City you will need to take a cab as it is quite some distance from the
city centre. Enjoy your stay. We hope you will want to come back and
visit us again.
